fury reviews on the interwebs

Even I find it interesting to read reviews about my own book. When someone says good things about something clever I’ve done, I think “wow, did I mean to do that…err. of course I did. Yes I did. Culprit here. I did it on purpose guise cos I rock and stuff… yeah? Yeah?” (but you can say no, lol).

Perilous Adventures (reviewed by Marlyn MacDonald) – “To me, Marr’s character Eliza is a modern and very upmarket version of Kylie Mole”

In The Midnight Garden (Wendy Darling) – “This book defies every just about every red flag that pops up in YA literature. ”

Inkcrush (Nomes) – “Let me tell you about Eliza…. I ADORE her. Which is saying something as she is not always the easiest protagonist to love.”

The Nocturnal Library (reviwed by Lisa O) – I imagine this book as a matrjoshka, one of those Russian dolls. When you start reading, you see only what’s outside, the bigger doll, but as you go on, through a series of flashbacks, Eliza takes you further, helps you crack the outer shell, and see what’s hidden inside. ”

The Readventurer (Flannery) – “I was hooked on this from the first page– It was like reading about The Heathers murdering someone.”

Musty Pages (Vee) – “Fury is unlike anything else I’ve read in YA. It’s completely original in that it manages to combine the often hilarious, bold brashness of its voice, with a dark undertone and subject matter and a powerful, resonating story.”

Lost in Stories (Romy) – “I just have to say that the first chapter would have to be one of my all time favourite first chapters in a novel I have ever read”

My Girl Friday (Steph) – “I felt that Fury invokes some incredibly strong visuals and I imagined it would be like Sofia Coppola directing Heathers”

The Small Town Book Blog (Alice) – “I usually stay away from non-romance books, but since this is by an Aussie author (I read this for the Aussie YA challenge), I thought I’d try it. And seriously? It was worth it.”

i read therefore i am (Larissabookgirl’s livejournal) – “Fury is compelling, messy, complicated and just a little bit heartbreaking”

The Book Nerd Club (mummazappa’s blog) – “One of the lines I loved best in the book reflects the idea – how stupid are you to think we couldn’t do this just because we are girls.”

Aussie Reviews – “Fury brings to mind a wind, slowly gathering intensity until it is a maelstrom”

Literary Clutter (George Ivanoff’s Blog) – “I found myself taking her side in conflicts — these moments were usually followed by a double-take as I reminded myself that I didn’t like Eliza and so I had no business taking her side.”

Just Desserts – “The story is continually interrupted, it lends a darkly disturbing drive to the action – you know something awful’s going to happen, just not how they’re going to get there.”

Hey! Teenager of the Year (Steph Bowe’s Blog) – “I was still left with lots of questions, though (which was good. It’s the sort of book I thought about for a long time afterwards)”

To balance up the nice things… here is a Seriously Searing Roasting by Miss Riass (playing the villian)…

Read in One Sitting (Stephanie Riass) – “Fury is a tormenting, visceral read; the prose veritably lashes at you, and the unmitigated venom and hatred (with self-directed or externally directed) or the characters makes for an astonishingly bleak read…”
