red image of the girl from marrs – author’s photo shoot

Hey you. Yeah you, pretty thing. Come behind the scenes with me on my author’s photo shoot.
When confronted with the two little words “photo shoot” the major freak out of every girl is probably loud and instantaneous: “I NEED TO LOSE WEIGHT!”. Enter Heather Robbins, photographer. She’s made of two of the most wonderful things in the world – artistic talent and the ability to make you feel like she’s your best friend.
“Shirley,” says Heather to me, “Sure you want to relate to the people who will read your book, but you also need to be their role model.”
So armed with that philosophy, I went to Heather’s house, got made up by the gorgeous Cindy Sutton and spent a fun afternoon sitting on Heather’s breakfast bar (literally), drinking cups of tea and then having a tapas lunch afterwards (yum!).
I didn’t lose any weight. Not a single kilo. I think I look comfortable and happy and well, me. I’m not super skinny, but that doesn’t matter. I eat burgers. That is good.
PS – I am also super proud that Heather hasn’t like other photographers airbrushed me into oblivion. In the larger pics you can see my flaws like wrinkles, scars and stuff. I have this funny thing that runs from my bottom lip to my chin. So those stickers they’re going to put on magazines for healthy images, well I reckon I should have one too

And from the heat of the kitchen the deity known as Shirley Marr was born, clutching a cuppa tea in one hand and a typewriter in the other and she said, “Hey, I cooked up this slightly poisonous book, let there be violently emotional reactions to it and let that be a good thing because passion is a good thing.”
