Fury
"…Eliza, a stand-up comic voice replete with the conventions of oral comedy: deliberate verbal red herrings, asides, careful timing, punchlines, one liners. To me, Marr's character Eliza is a modern and very upmarket version of Kylie Mole" - Marlyn MacDonald (Perilous Adventures)

What people are blogging about Fury:
"Fury is unlike anything else I’ve read in YA. It’s completely original in that it manages to combine the often hilarious, bold brashness of its voice, with a dark undertone and subject matter and a powerful, resonating story." - Musty Pages (Vee's Blog)
"I just have to say that the first chapter would have to be one of my all time favourite first chapters in a novel I have ever read" - Lost in Stories (Romy's Blog)
"I felt that Fury invokes some incredibly strong visuals and I imagined it would be like Sofia Coppola directing Heathers" - My Girl Friday (Steph's Blog)
What people are saying about Fury:
"It's always exciting when a new voice in literature speaks out for the first time. The new voice is Shirley Marr and Fury is a fresh, sassy story laced with wicked black humour that is going to appeal to today's teens... and some who wish they still were."
- Karen Tayleur, Adult Reader (and Author)
"I received a copy of Fury a week or two ago from Black Dog (I was lucky enough to work with them recently!) and have now read it twice, quickly turning to three times.
I love it so much, it's amazing. The characters and their attitudes... wow... everything is just... captivating! I read it just for the ending."
- Sam, Teen Reader
"I enjoyed Fury thoroughly, as it was such a change from the sorts of books I normally like to read and there is something about this storyline that will leave you wanting more. This novel is dark and sinister, but will also make you laugh, sigh and gasp at Eliza, her decisions and her perfect little East Rivermoor life. I loved this novel and I would certainly recommend Fury to girls aged 14 and over who love a scandalous story. Overall I would definitely rate Fury by Shirley Marr an 8.5/10."
- Tasha, Teen Reader
"A must read for people of all ages, most definitely one of those books ‘you can’t put down’. Particularly as the book skips from present to past throughout, which makes you more anxious to discover what happened!! A book you will want to read over, if not to re-discover bits you missed for reading so quickly the first time round, but to re-immerse yourself in the spoilt world of Eliza and co!!"
- Gemma, 20-Something-Reader
"The writing is so good, as someone who was a teenager not so long ago, I can say that Lizzie's 'voice' is spot on (Like, totally!). I really liked the depth of that character, that just when you start to feel sorry for her, she comes back as this dangerously clever, spoilt, overly privileged and protected girl, and I finished not knowing whether to feel bad for her, or be a little frightened of her! I tried so hard to finish it on Sunday night, but at about 1am I realised I needed to go to bed to avoid being a zombie at work!"
- Ashleigh, 20-Something-Reader
"I'm usually a slow reader, but I have read Fury twice now. Both times I was completely absorbed and encapsulated in Shirley Marr's wicked and wonderfully constructed universe, and both times I thought Dr Fadden was this strange guy who maybe looked a little bit like a skinny, smarter version of Dilbert. Dr Fadden rocks!"
- Kim, Adult Reader (and a guy)
"Neil was extremely well handled. I liked the shared history he had with Eliza. There was one scene in the novel, where they are talking, and Neil is more or less revealing how he feels... and I just wanted to shout at Eliza, "Just kiss him for god's sake"... but then I remembered that they were fictional characters."
- George Ivanoff, Adult Reader (a guy and Author)
"I need a prequel with Neil in it."
- Melissa, Adult Reader (and Shirley's editor)
